Contemporary Bar Globe

Contemporary Bar Globe

"Reminiscent of the craftsmanship seen in Renaissance Florence circa 1500s this handcrafted globe will add elegance to any room. The Contemporary Bar Globe charts the routes of old century sailors based on 16th century maps of the world as it was known at that time adding an authentic touch. The globe conveniently holds your finest wine port or brandy below the globe as well as inside. There's also storage space for stemware. Casters make it easy to move the piece from room to room.Add interest to the place where you entertain with the Contemporary Bar Globe! These luxurious bar globes are handcrafted in italy according to tradition as they were made in Renaissance Florence circa 1500's. The process by the artisan is much the same today as it was then. The exterior of the globe is hand-laid paper which is applied to the exterior of the globe in a manner which is similar to the application of wall paper. As the paper is laid on the spherical globe it is seen that the lines of latitude do not meet precisely. This is normal and the globes of that era were produced in this manner. The map on the globe is based on 16th century maps of the world as it was known at that time. As a result discongruencies with modern knowledge of the continents exist. Some of which are subtle others of which are stark. These discongruencies are typically visible to an observer of the piece only on close detailed inspection. From a distance in which the globe is typically shown an observer may not even notice them. These features of the globe testify to its authenticity as a true work of art as opposed to cheaply made imports from China."
