The map on the globe is based on 16th century maps of the world as it was known at that time. As a result discongruencies with modern knowledge of the continents exist. Some of which are subtle others of which are stark. These discongruencies are typically visible to an observer of the piece only on close detailed inspection. From a distance in which the globe is typically shown an observer may not even notice them.
